More than 160 people have participated so far! Each quarter, I open registration and pair participants with a pen pal from a different generation.

It’s a one-letter commitment. After that, where the correspondence goes is completely up to you!

The next round opens November 1, 2026.

Backstory

The idea for the Intergenerational Letter Writing Club started with my grandma and her widow group, affectionately called the “We Group.”

I was lucky enough to join them for some of their Friday happy hours, and I was always struck by the way these women supported, encouraged, and showed up for one another. I would sit and listen to their stories and conversations and leave feeling like I had gained something. It made me realize just how meaningful relationships outside of our own generations can be.

So, in February 2025, I decided to try something.

I joined my grandma at a We Group meeting in a church basement and, following a police presentation on how to spot scammers, stood up and pitched my idea: a letter-writing program connecting their generation with mine. I stayed afterward collecting names and addresses, then put out a call for younger participants.

From there, the first Intergenerational Letter Writing Club was born. We paired up, wrote letters, asked questions, shared stories, and opened conversations between people who otherwise may never have met.

The response from both generations made me want to keep it going—and eventually open it up to people of all ages.
